NEW – Dickson Spitfire BBQ and Dickinson Mediterranean 3 burner oven/stove (3 months old $2000) – two 10 lb aluminum propane cylinders in silos in cockpit. one for bbq, one for stove, also a spare 20lb fiberglass tank in locker.
600 Watts of solar – we don’t plug in – we run everything from solar, including our laptops, watermaker, television ect…
202amp hour/ 2.6kw Lithium Ion battery with 200amp BMS controller and an MPPT controller for the solar, that you can monitor via an app on your phone, we have also recently installed a monitoring station at the chart table, 1 starter battery
2500 Watt inverter – we backfeed all the 110volt plugs so they always work when we are cruising – we have a spare controller on board as well
Hot Water Heater – 2017
Katadyn 40E Watermaker with spare membrane, 1.3 gallons per hour, we run daily for 5 hours. – after troublshooting this for several months, we finally got all the kinks worked out… works great!
Air conditioning/heating unit is AS IS – we now KNOW it needs replacing (new unit purchased, if I have time I will be replacing in March 2021)

9 Winches, the winch for the centerboard is used often, mains are self tailing, there are two mains, four on cabin top, 2 beside mast and one on boom.
Boat is fun to sail, and has been perfect for us as a couple, we sailed from Parry Sound, ontario to bahamas in 2018 and we are currently in the Florida Keys, it has pilot berths that we use for clothing storage and food storage, if I were a better carpenter I would put cupboard doors on them to hide our supplies. – Quarter berth is okay for a couple, but can be tight if both are larger people. We sleep in the V-birth, there is plenty of room.
We are selling as we want to get a larger boat to allow more privacy when we have guests.
She is not perfect, we have replaced all the teak and holly floors(2017), but some surfaces in the heavily teak interior could use some oil and there are a couple drawers with a nick or two in the veneer, nothing major, the hull is freshly awlgriped, deck has some crazing, but decks are solid and her last survey in 2017 showed ALL GOOD.
Cushions are all white vinyl, and some have some marks on them, again nothing major, but we want to be upfront as coming to look at a boat can be an undertaking and we respect that.
This is the perfect boat for a couple wanting to try cruising, but still like to sail fast, she is no slouch, and points 30 degrees off wind, but on longer passages I normally just set the autopilot to keep her 33 degrees off the wind.
When motoring on the ICW, we draw the path on the chartplotter in the morning, and just keep an eye out for the day, taking her off autopilot when other boats are approaching.
We have upgraded many systems on the boat, all with excellent quality equipment, my next projects were to start systematically replacing thru-hulls and after that paint the deck, but we are ready to move up, Desperado II has an excellent pedigree and after almost 24 months of cruising on her, we have upgraded and improved things to make an old race boat a very decent and well equipped cruiser.
